Build a Cedar Garden Bench

In this video I build a big heavy cedar garden bench reclaimed timber.  All of the parts are made from milled down 6×6 cedar deck posts.  Final dimensions of the timbers ended up at about 5 x 5 inches give or take a little.  There was a lot of color variation in the stock used for the legs as you can see in the picture gallery below.  The legs are attached using mortise and tenon joinery.

The overall measurements of the bench ended up at the following:
Bench top: 45 by 15.25 inches and 5 inches thick.
Legs: 15.5 inches long and 5 inches square.
Tenons are 2.5 inches long so the visible part of the leg after assembly is 13 inches long.  This resulted in a bench top that was 18 inches high which is a very comfortable height.

This was a fun little project and a solid cedar bench is a great addition to any garden or other outdoor living space.  Using reclaimed lumber makes projects like this super cheap as you can usually always find someone with an old deck or fence that they want to get rid of.
